What is 3-D Pilates in Motion?
3-D Pilates in Motion is the convergence of Stott Pilates and Applied Functional Science developed by physical therapist Gary Gray.
Thinking of the body like a chain - a kinetic chain - no body part moves independent of the other parts.
3-D Pilates in Motion trains the “foot-ankle-knee-hip-pelvis-spine-ribcage-shoulder-neck-head” joint. I’m
only sort of kidding, because when you apply an exercise to one joint there is a kinetic chain reaction
throughout the entire body - like when you swing a golf club or pick up a child or grandchild. 3-D Pilates in Motion is kinetic chain or movement training - training for life, sports, injury prevention, etc.
Movement Training from Toe to Head...
3-D Pilates in Motion takes the principles of Stott Pilates and begins to progress the exercises into
3-dimentional movements - from the ground up (toe to head) - up the kinetic chain in all planes - just
like real life. We live in constant motion. Shouldn’t your fitness program compliment that motion?
Exercise progressions go from lying on a mat or Pilates equipment to seated, kneeling, standing and
eventually to 3-dimentional movement - static, slow, moderate, fast and eventually explosive. Explosive
(or jump movement training) is necessary for “save the day” situations, like a trip and fall. 3-D Pilates in Motion has a focus on posture, alignemnt, stability, flexibility and core based movements. Programming is never a one-size-fits-all and always individualized.
